KMT demands apologies, resignation over oil scandal
By Lo Kuo-chia and Jake Chung / Staff reporter, with staff writer The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) caucus yesterday called on President William Lai (賴清德) to apologize and Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) to resign over the government’s handling of the Central Union Oil Corp (中聯油脂) contaminated cooking oil scandal. Oil produced by Taichung-based company was found to contain excessive levels of the carcinogen benzopyrene last month, and the contaminated batch has distributed to 360 downstream businesses nationwide. The central government failed to provide timely information to the public, endangered people’s health and damaged public confidence, KMT legislators said.
