KMT caucus accuses MAC of politicizing pomelo trade

By Lo Kuo-chia, Hsu Yung-ching and Jake Chung / Staff reporter, with staff writers Add TT as Preferred Source The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) caucus yesterday accused the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) of politicizing China’s decision to allow imports of more Taiwanese pomelos, primarily from Hualien County.China’s Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday said that China’s General Administration of Customs recently registered an additional 79 Taiwanese pomelo orchards and packing facilities, allowing more Taiwanese producers to export pomelos to China.The MAC said that Taiwanese growers would not only have to pay high export tariffs, but that the orchards and facilities announced also had to meet political requirements.
