King Charles pound coin from 2025 sells for £122

NewsUK NewsRare coinsThe new coin was released into circulation last yearNeil Shaw11:05, 04 Sep 2026A rare £1 coin has sold for more than 122 times its value because part of the King's head is chopped off. The 2025 coin, which features King Charles III on the front and the British bee design on the reverse, sold for £122.08. It was minted with a 'rare' error, as King Charles' head strays into the outer gold ring of the coin, making it appear as if the top of his head has been chopped off.‌The entirety of the King's head should usually appear in the silver-coloured inner disk of the coin. The error is thought to have made the coin's value skyrocket. The listing reads: "2025 King Charles £1 Coin minting errors. Oval centre, head in outer ring " One keen bidder snapped up the coin for £122.08
