Karnataka: Speaker, Council Chairperson elections slated for August 14

A view of the Vidhana Soudha The election for the post of Speaker in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Chairperson of the Karnataka Legislative Council has been notified for Friday.The Monsoon Session of the State Legislature will commence on Thursday.The Congress has announced G.S. Patil and Saleem Ahmed as its choice for the posts of Speaker and Chairperson, respectively.The Speaker’s post fell vacant after U.T. Khader resigned and was inducted into the Cabinet, while the post of Council Chairman fell vacant following the resignation of senior member Basavaraj Horatti. Senior lawmaker T.B.
