Jonah Tong’s Mets return expected to come next week

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Jonah Tong appears set for his next chance with the Mets. The rookie is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse next week and pitch for the Mets during their series in Miami, according to an organizational source. Tong, 23, has dominated in his past four starts for Syracuse, pitching to a 0.84 ERA with 23 strikeouts and 10 walks over 21 ¹/₃ innings in that stretch. Tong carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his Aug. 29 start. He finished with one hit and two walks allowed over seven innings. Interim manager Andy Green, before the Mets faced the Rays on Wednesday, indicated that if Tong joins the team it will likely be as part of an extended rotation. “We have been paying attention to Jonah’s outings and we think positively about what he’s done,” Green
