John Swinney appoints new Scottish Government minister after MSP resigns

Alyn Smith, a former MP and MEP who was elected to Holyrood in May, has been named the new Minister for Innovation, Technology and Tertiary Education. Smith will succeed Ben Macpherson, who stepped down last week in order to “pursue various political passions outwith government".
