India’s first, 2 geothermal wells commissioned in Ladakh
SRINAGAR: In a major step towards India’s clean energy mission, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh V K Saxena Friday commissioned the country’s first and the deepest geothermal wells at Puga valley. ONGC Energy Centre would execute two geothermal wells in the Union Territory.“What has been achieved in Puga valley would serve as a blueprint for India‘s net-zero journey and significantly contribute towards making Ladakh a carbon-neutral and environmentally sustainable region,” Saxena said.The commissioning of the two 1,000m-deep wells, at an altitude of over 14,000 ft, would significantly advance Ladakh’s journey towards becoming a clean energy hub, officials said.
