Homes near new pylon projects will get cheaper bills, government says

43 new projects were announced on Wednesday00:01, 12 Aug 2026Houses near some of the new pylon and national grid sites will be eligible for cheaper electricity bills, the government has announced.‌On Wednesday (August 12) the Energy Department (Desnz) announced 43 projects expected to be in the scope of its “bills discount scheme”, which will see those living within 500 metres of the new or upgraded overhead transmission lines and other eligible infrastructure start to receive money off their bills in the first half of next year.‌The department has said those eligible could ultimately get £2,500 off their electricity bills over 10 years through the discounts.‌Click here to get the biggest stories straight to your inbox in our Daily NewsletterA Government impact assessment earlier this year
