HK hears arguments over vigil organizers’ sentences

Three former organizers of Hong Kong’s annual vigils in remembrance of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown yesterday returned to court to argue over their sentences after being convicted of inciting subversion under a National Security Law imposed by China.Lee Cheuk-yan (李卓人), Chow Hang-tung (鄒幸彤) and Albert Ho (何俊仁), former leaders of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, were charged in 2021 under the law that has effectively stifled the territory’s previously thriving pro-democracy movement.Lee and Chow, who pleaded not guilty, were convicted on Friday last week.
