Historic ship removed after 44 years in Swansea Marina

The rusting 225-tonne Helwick was built in 1937 and used to anchor at sea in all weathers to mark a navigation hazard.‌It has been docked at Swansea Marina since 1982 and in recent times has entered "advanced deterioration", according to a Swansea Council report. Helwick is owned by the council and is part of its Swansea Museum collection.‌In October 2025 the council approved a dry dock refurbishment expected to cost around £360,000.
