'Historic moment' as Bayeux Tapestry returns to UK for first time in 960 years
NewsGreater Manchester NewsNational newsThe Bayeux Tapestry returned to the United Kingdom today10:15, 10 Jul 2026Under the cover of darkness and a police escort, the Bayeux Tapestry returned to the United Kingdom for the first time in almost 1,000 years on Thursday night.Overnight, the 70-metre-long (229ft) tapestry, which is linen with embroidered images of the Norman Conquest, arrived at the British Museum from France.
