High wave alert issued for Alappad-Edava coast in Kerala’s Kollam

The National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued a swell surge (Kallakkadal) alert for the coastal belt stretching from Alappad to Edava. High waves reaching heights of up to 1.6 meters, alongside potential coastal erosion and sea incursions, are expected along the coastline until 11.30 p.m. on August 6. Following the warning, fishers and coastal residents have been directed to avoid venturing into the sea and to strictly follow safety protocols.Authorities have instructed residents in vulnerable areas to relocate to safer locations as advised by local emergency response teams. Fishers are strongly advised against launching small boats or canoes into the water, and attempts to launch or land fishing craft should be completely avoided while wave intensity remains high.
