HC stays Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak schemes’ operation

The Telangana High Court on Wednesday stayed the operation of Kalyana Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak schemes of the State government till September 9. Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar of the HC, passing the order in a writ petition filed by advocate Vijay Gopal contending that the two schemes being operated through eight GOs issued by the State government had no legislative or statutory sanction, said the disbursement of money under the schemes to beneficiaries should also be stopped till that date. The petitioner challenged the basis on which the eligibility criteria like the income limit was fixed by the government for enforcement of the two schemes. The expenditure incurred under the schemes involved substantial amounts from the Consolidated Funds of the State which was contrary to the Articles 20
