Guntur imposes complete ban on single-use plastic from today

The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Monday began the enforcement of a complete ban on single-use plastic and plastic carry bags below 120 microns in thickness in the city, as part of measures to protect public health and the environment, Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok said.The ban applies to commercial establishments, shops, street vendors and the general public. Those found using or selling prohibited plastic items will face fines and legal action, the Commissioner said.Shopkeepers who continue to violate the rules despite being fined on two occasions will face cancellation of their trade licences and sealing of their establishments, he warned.Ward-level task force teams will conduct daily inspections at wholesale and retail shops and warehouses to detect the sale and use of banned pla
