According to state-owned al-Ahram newspaper, they had been part of an organised criminal gang that imported ingredients to manufacture drugs, with the intent to sell. They also possessed illegal firearms and munitions.Sarah Khalifa, 39, a presenter and lifestyle influencer with almost 3million social media followers, was arrested on suspicion of drug offences in an upmarket district of Cairo in April 2025. She had her assets frozen along with co-defendents, and suspects were placed on travel ban lists.
