Gardaí shoot knife-wielding man with 'less lethal' round in Dundalk

GARDAÍ SHOT A man with a “less lethal” round in Dundalk, Co Louth, last night after he failed to drop a knife he was wielding, a garda spokesperson said. Gardaí said the man received medical treatment and that he is now detained at Dundalk garda station. At around 9.30pm, uniformed and armed gardaí responded to “an incident involving a male armed with a knife at an open car park in Dundalk”, the spokesperson said. “Gardaí engaged with the male to try and deescalate the situation and directed him to drop the knife. “The male did not comply and gardaí from the Armed Support Unit discharged one round from a 40mm less-lethal force option,” the spokesperson said, adding that the man was successfully disabled.
