Amendments enacted in 2024 already disqualify people convicted of aggravated fraud for running for public office, the interior ministry said The Legislative Yuan yesterday passed an amendment that adds convictions under the Fraud Crime Hazard Prevention Act (詐欺犯罪危害防制條例) to the list of offenses that disqualify people from running for president or vice president in Taiwan.The amendment, introduced by Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Weng Hsiao-ling (翁曉玲), revised Article 26 of the Presidential and Vice Presidential Election and Recall Act (總統副總統選罷法).Presidential candidates should be held to a higher standard of integrity than ordinary citizens, given that the president is entrusted with leading the country, Weng said.
