He was among dozens of defendants convicted over the collapse, which revealed serious lapses in the maintenance of Italian infrastructure. On the morning of 14 August 2018, a 650ft section of Genoa’s Morandi road bridge gave way during a storm, sending dozens of vehicles plunging to the ground.
