Former Bucharest district mayor Clotilde Armand receives deferred one-year prison sentence, ruling not final

01 September 2026 Former Bucharest District 1 mayor Clotilde Armand was handed a one-year prison sentence on Monday, August 31, in a case concerning her appointment as manager of an EU-funded project. The District 1 Court postponed the application of the sentence, while the ruling can be appealed, Agerpres reported. The court found Armand guilty of using her position to favor certain individuals in a continued form involving four acts. The case concerns allegations that, while serving as mayor, she appointed herself manager of the EU-funded project.
