EU Raises Ukrainian Flag in Brussels Ahead of Independence Day

The European Commission raised the Ukrainian flag in Brussels on Aug. 21 ahead of Ukraine’s 35th Independence Day, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stating that Ukraine will take its “rightful place” in the Union. International gestures of support include Paris illuminating the Eiffel Tower in blue and yellow on Aug. 24, accompanied by a performance from a Ukrainian children’s choir, and a joint musical performance by UK and Ukrainian military bands.
