Ebola outbreak on track to be the deadliest ever, UN says

THE current outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is heading towards becoming the deadliest ever, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Wednesday. The director-general of the WHO, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, told reporters that the current outbreak could “eclipse” the death toll of the 2014 to 2016 occurrence, which killed at least 11,000 people. The outbreak this year has seen at least 4,300 cases and caused more than 2,000 deaths since it was declared on May 15.
