New caseload statistics from the DWP, now being overseen by new Prime Minister Andy Burnham, show the number claiming for back pain has hit 276,725.Four million people now claim Pip in England and Wales, and back pain alone accounts for an estimated £1.89bn of the £26bn bill, which is ballooning and causing concern.There are 70,556 people aged 65 or older drawing Pip for a bad back, at an estimated cost of £491m a year.
