Drills to simulate disruptions to mobile Internet
Fourteen administrative regions across northern and central Taiwan are to simulate disruptions to mobile Internet as part of next month’s nationwide air raid drills, with mobile users limited to voice calls and text messages for 30 minutes, New Taipei City police said in a notice. The scenario, planned by the National Communications Commission (NCC) as part of the Urban Resilience Exercises, would simulate disrupted or significantly slowed mobile data services due to network congestion or emergency management measures, leaving only voice and SMS services available, the notice said. The exercise would be conducted in seven central jurisdictions — Taichung, Chiayi city and county, as well as Miaoli, Changhua, Nantou and Yunlin counties — from 2:30pm to 3pm on Aug. 10, it said.
