Disney built Disneyland around a family farm that refused a $90 million offer
For decades, the Fujishige family refused to sell their 58-acre farm in Anaheim, even as Disneyland and surrounding development transformed the area. Disney and other developers made repeated offers for the valuable land, but the family continued growing strawberries and vegetables. After years of pressure and a bitter fight with the city, the family finally agreed to sell in 1998, shortly before Hiroshi Fujishige died. The former farm later became the Toy Story parking lot at Disneyland.
