Cross-community peace rally announced for Derry’s Craigavon Bridge - On This Day in 1976

September 1 1976Next Saturday’s peace rally in Derry will be held on Craigavon Bridge at 3 o’clock, Peace People’s co-founders, Mrs Betty Williams and Miss Mairead Corrigan, announced last night.Craigavon Bridge links predominantly Catholic West Bank and the mainly Protestant Waterside district of the city and is regarded as a symbolic venue.The police in Derry have been notified of the arrangement.Mrs Williams and Miss Corrigan have named their opposite numbers in Derry.
