Collision between car and train in Co Mayo causes significant disruption

A TRAIN COLLIDED with a car in Ballyhaunis in Co Mayo on Thursday night, leaving the line between Westport and Athlone closed until further notice, Irish Rail has said. Replacement bus transfers will operate from Westport to Athlone this morning, while the Ballina to Manualla services are expected to operate to Claremorris, the company said. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by today’s incidents,” it said in a post on social media. “A sincere thank you to all passengers/staff for your patience, understanding and cooperation during this challenging day.” Irish Rail said it would continue to provide updates today.
