CMC performs rare robotic surgery

The Department of Paediatric Surgery at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, has successfully completed a robotic pylorus preserving Whipple procedure on an eight-year-old child.According to a press release, the procedure achievement represents a significant milestone in the field of paediatric robotic surgery. The child was diagnosed with a rare cancer of the bile ducts.Following preoperative chemotherapy, the entire tumour was removed while preserving the pylorus (part of the stomach), utilising a robotic platform that provided excellent 3D vision and the ability for precise dissection with delicate reconstruction.After a two-week recovery, the child will continue further chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
