Children, families adopt animals under Vizag zoo’s programme
Several animals at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) in Visakhapatnam have been adopted by children and their families on the occasion of their birthdays under the zoo’s Animal Adoption Programme, according to a release by the park on Sunday (August 30, 2026).A total of ₹1,46,100 was contributed towards the adoption of 10 animals, including a Himalayan goral, a parrot, a leopard, a striped hyena, a Himalayan black bear, a Royal Bengal tiger, and a spotted deer, said curator G. Mangamma. The amount would go towards the animals’ care, welfare and conservation, she said.The adopters were Reddy Vihaan Vardhan, Siyan Tanvi, Hema Aishwarya Gollu, Vijaya Kannanabu Gollu, Haritha Gollu, Sattaru Kanishkaa, and Sattaru Papinaidu and Sattaru Arudhra.
