Cheap Labor, Deadly Consequences: How Trucking Companies Benefit From Illegal Alien Drivers

September 01, 2026 7:24 PM ET Trucking carriers have benefited from a steady supply of cheap labor from illegal immigrant drivers, but the consequences have sometimes been deadly. Since the start of 2025, at least 28 people have died and many more have been injured in 16 collisions involving drivers who had no right to be in the country.Some of the drivers had overstayed visas, while others had entered the country illegally. Most did not speak English, and two did not even have the commercial driver’s license (CDL) required to operate a larger vehicle.
