Charges framed against Syed Ashfaqul Haque, wife

A Dhaka court today framed charges against Syed Ashfaqul Haque, former executive editor of The Daily Star, and his wife Tania Khondoker in a case filed over the death of a teenage house help, who fell from their residential building in Dhaka's Mohammadpur in February 2024.The couple, now on bail, pleaded not guilty after Judge Md Alamgir of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court-1 of Dhaka read out the charges against them, said ASM Shahadat Ali, court bench assistant.The court also rejected a petition, which was filed seeking discharge of the couple, he added.The next hearing in the case is scheduled on January 4, 2027.Preeti Urang, 15, from Moulvibazar, died after falling through an open window on the eighth floor of the couple’s flat around 8:00am on February 6, 2024.Followi
