Case booked against six on charges of killing spotted deer in Sagara taluk

Sharavathi Wildlife Range officials with the three people arrested in Sagara taluk on Wednesday. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT Sharavathi Wildlife Range officials in Sagara taluk have booked a case against six persons on charges of electrocuting and killing two spotted deer, a Schedule-II protected species, in Nagavalli. The officials have so far arrested three of the accused — Banu, Shivu, and Mahesh, all residents of Nagavalli — while three others, Shaji, Rama, and Sridhar, remain absconding.According to a communique from the Forest Department, officials conducted a search operation on Wednesday on land belonging to Shaji, one of the accused, at Nagavalli. During the search, they found that the accused had electrocuted two spotted deer, butchered the carcasses, and cooked the meat.
