Cardinals cut ties with ex-Dodgers, Yankees 3.80 ERA lefty reliever
The St. Louis Cardinals have released an eight-year Major League veteran reliever. The left-hander allowed eight earned runs and 11 hits in nine appearances with the NL Central club. According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Caleb Ferguson has cleared waivers and was released by the Cardinals. He is now a free agent. St. Louis acquired Ferguson from the Cincinnati Reds at the trade deadline, but things did not work out. "With Ferguson simply not performing, the Cards have chosen to utilize his roster spot on a fresher arm in [Brycen] Mautz," Mark Polishuk of MLB Trade Rumors wrote. "Since trades are no longer permitted past the deadline, Ferguson can only change teams via the DFA process if he is claimed off the waiver wire." MORE: Cubs trade deadline addition Clay Holmes
