Braves release former Pirates MVP one day after trade deadline

The Atlanta Braves are moving on from a former NL MVP. Just one day after the trade deadline, the NL East club has made three significant roster changes. But its release of an ex-Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star stands out above the rest. According to the MiLB transaction log, the Braves have released outfielder Andrew McCutchen from his minor league contract. McCutchen joined the Braves in July after being cut loose from the Texas Rangers. The five-time All-Star hit .192/.277/.260 in 83 trips to the plate with the AL West club. The 39-year-old posted above-league-average offensive production in his final two years with the Pirates from 2023-24. At that point, he was mostly limited to designated hitter duties.
