Bologna mayor given security escort following threats linked to Moroccan's death
Bologna's centre-left Mayor Matteo Lepore has been given a security escort, having come under a barrage of online threats after he organized a demonstration last week calling for the truth about the case of Abderrahim Fakir, a 42-year-old Moroccan man who died while being restrained by police in the city. While that demonstration passed off peacefully, protests in other parts of the city turned into a riot last Monday, with 64 police officers injured and massive damage caused. Premier Giorgia Meloni's ruling alliance has accused Lepore of deligimitizing the police by organizing the demonstration and being in part to blame for last week's violence - accusations he denies. Around 2,000 people took part in another procession held on Sunday, a week after Fakir died, and there was no trouble. O
