Blue Jays cut ties with former Padres knuckleballer
The Toronto Blue Jays have cut ties with one of the last remaining knuckleballers. According to an announcement from the AL East club, they've selected the contract of left-hander Brendan Celluci. In a corresponding move, right-hander Matt Waldron was designated for assignment. Waldron, 29, was claimed off waivers from the San Diego Padres two weeks ago. He made just four relief appearances with the Blue Jays. In 4.1 innings, Waldron allowed five earned runs on seven hits and struck out just three of the 22 batters he faced. Blue Jays DFA Matt Waldron Waldron has thrown his knuckleball 30% of the time in 2026. He also mixes in a cutter, sinker, sweeper, and four-seam fastball. Even though Waldron was DFA'd, there's still a chance for him to stay within the Blue Jays organization. MORE: Dia
