BLAST demands justice for tortured sisters in Shariatpur

Leading rights organisation Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) today demanded fair investigation and prosecution of those involved with the incident of brutal physical torture on two sisters in Shariatpur.In a statement, BLAST condemned the incident as “inhuman and cruel” and called for immediate legal action against the perpetrators.It urged the authorities concerned to effectively implement the High Court’s 2010 directives against extrajudicial punishment.The organisation also demanded protection for the victims and their family members, who have allegedly been threatened with eviction from the area.The rights body said in the statement that two sisters, aged 18 and 12, were allegedly subjected to brutal physical torture after being accused of theft in Shariatpur’s Bhedargan
