Barapukuria power plant unit-1 resumes operation after a day

Electricity generation at unit-1 of the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur resumed after remaining shut for a day.Mohammad Abu Bakar Siddique, chief engineer of the plant, told The Daily Star that power generation resumed at 9:00am today after a mechanical glitch was fixed, adding around 50-55 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid.Earlier, on Friday morning, power generation at unit-1 was suspended after its service water pump malfunctioned.The same unit also stopped generation on July 31 due to a mechanical failure and resumed operations on August 2 after repairs.At present, along with unit-1, unit-3 is supplying around 170 MW to the national grid, while unit-2 has remained out of operation since 2020.The plant has a total generation capacity of 525 MW, with units 1
