Another 19 municipalities join Mariana disaster reparations deal

Another 19 municipalities have joined the New Rio Doce Agreement, which seeks to address the disaster caused by the collapse of Samarco’s Fundão dam in rural Mariana, Minas Gerais, nearly 11 years ago. The mining company announced the new signatories on Thursday (Aug. 20). As a result, 45 of the 49 eligible municipalities are now part of the remediation agreement, including 15 in Minas Gerais and four in Espírito Santo.
