Andy Burnham vows no early general election before 2029

The new Prime Minister insisted he ‘faced the public’ in the Makerfield by-election and had a mandate for his sweeping changes to the country. Burnham was speaking after a busy first week in the top job, during which he pledged to roll out the biggest changes the UK has seen in four years. He has already announced a nationwide single fare bus cap at £2 and plans to scrap VAT on household electricity bills. The BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg put it to Burnham that 48 million people in the electorate had not had a say on his ideas. Burnham was speaking from No 10 North in Manches
