The previous Sir Keir Starmer consulted on introducing mandatory eyesight testing for drivers over age 70 and develop options for cognitive testing for older drivers.‌After the Road Safety Strategy was confirmed back in January, a consultation ran until mid-May. The government had promised feedback within three months of it closing.‌That would mean responsibility falls on Mr Burnham, the new Labour Party leader, in August. The strategy warns: "The government is consulting on introducing mandatory eyesight testing for drivers over age 70 and will develop options for cognitive testing for older drivers.‌READ MORE
