The consultation, launched back in January, ended in May13:07, 05 Aug 2026Andy Burnham's government is considering six changes for drivers over age 70 - and some younger motorists too. The Labour Party government wants to reduce road deaths and injuries of older drivers.‌As such, it launched a consultation earlier this year, looking into introducing mandatory eyesight checks for drivers over-70. The consultation, launched back in January, ended in May - with the promise of an update after three months of looking at the feedback from it.‌The government aims to protect "other road users who could be involved in collisions with older drivers", too, but says it doesn't want to erode "independence, mobility and social connectivity."
