A new path to leadership for US foreign aid

A year ago, the U.S. Agency for International Development was dismantled and a wide range of U.S. global programs, including life-saving humanitarian assistance, were shuttered. This was just the most dramatic example of a broader trend. Last year, the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and other donor countries slashed a historically high amount of 23 percent (or $40 billion) from aid budgets. These cuts could have devastating impacts and could lead to 9.4 million or more preventable deaths by 2030.
