90 incredible solar eclipse pictures from Greater Manchester and across the world

As the UK almost plunged into near darkness, people gathered together across the country with their safety glasses on to witness the historic occasion of the biggest partial solar eclipse in 27 years for themselves. More than 90 per cent of the sun was covered by the moon this evening (August 12) tonight, with people flocking to the likes of Heaton Park and Platt Fields Park in Manchester, and Jodrell Bank and Blackpool Pleasure Beach a little further afield, to catch the rare sight. It marked the fullest eclipse seen in the UK since the total solar eclipse in 1999, but it has been a scramble for many to secure the correct eyewear to use during the event.
